SCCS is encouraged by The Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ Spending Review on 11 June delivering a clear message in favour of CCS and recognising the pioneering work of UK industry in the sector.
The announcement of UK Government support for the Acorn CCS project in Aberdeenshire - and the backbone of The Scottish Cluster - and Viking CCS in the Humber region, further enabling the UK’s shift away from oil and gas to low carbon technology, is entirely welcome.
On June 12th Storegga’s website reported further details of what this means for CCS in Scotland:
“Acorn and Scottish Cluster partners will receive around £200 million in development funding – the first-time government support of this scale has been provided for the project. The funding also includes support for the National Gas SCO2T Connect project, which will repurpose 175 miles of existing pipeline infrastructure providing a transport route for industry in central Scotland to Acorn’s CO2 storage.”
Domestic supply chain development is vital, and CCS will create new and safeguard existing jobs - all while delivering the clean power, industrial decarbonisation and just transition that the UK needs.
We look forward to continuing to work with CCS projects and both UK and Scottish Governments, and to receiving more clarity on funding and development timelines.
