The backbone of this £1.7 million centre is a purpose-built Flow Loop, simulating the conditions inside a pipeline, as well as a low temperature laboratory, which provides an upscale link between laboratory studies and field implementation. The flow loop comprises a 2.5cm diameter, 40m long loop driven by a Moineau pump system. The flow loop is housed in an environmental chamber allowing temperature research mimicking subsea and Siberian conditions.
The Centre has recently been expanded to allow Convection experiments in temperature gradients relative to CO₂ injection as well as investigating CO₂ stream impurity limits, particularly for water.
