CCS Group Meeting - June 2015

  • Thursday, 11 June 2015 15:00 - 17:00

Venue: Main Room, Collins Building, University of Strathclyde  |  City: Glasgow, United Kingdom

Our bi-monthly CCS Group meeting for researchers in our partner institutes. CCS researchers from other institutes are also welcome.

The next gathering will be held at the University of Strathclyde for the first time, where we'll be loosely exploring the theme of "Risk" from the perspective of a number of disciplines  from capture technologies and CO₂ transport and storage to policy and the social sciences.

Industry speaker, Tom Snow (Project Engineer, SSE), will talk about his work on the Peterhead CCS Project, one of the two government-backed demonstration projects, which could put the UK in the lead of CCS development in Europe. He will also touch on some of the environmental elements associated with the project's FEED studies.

Dr Julia Race (Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering, University of Strathclyde) will focus more closely on risk assessment and mitigation with her talk, entitled Prediction of the Consequences of a CO₂ Pipeline Release on Building Occupants. Dr Jennifer Roberts (Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Strathclyde) will follow this thread with her talk on CO₂ leakage risk and how this overlaps with societal risk.

And we are delighted to welcome Prof Karen Turner (Director, Centre for Energy Policy, University of Strathclyde), who will talk about the new Centre and also the UK's post-election energy landscape.

As usual, the meeting will provide an opportunity for Q&A as well as excellent networking amongst CCS researchers from different institutes.

The University of Strathclyde venue, Collins Building, is a short walk from Glasgow Queen Street train station. Refreshments on arrival.
