Global CCS Map

Welcome to the SCCS interactive map of carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects. This map shows the location and details of operational and proposed commercial-scale projects capturing, transporting and storing 500,000 tonnes or more of CO2 per year. Significant smaller pilot CO2 capture, storage and full chain capture, transport and storage projects are also shown.

How does the map work?

Please use the map zoom controls (left), location buttons (bottom left), and display buttons (bottom centre) to explore the map. To find out more about a specific project click on the individual project marker and follow the 'More Project Information' link. As some CCS projects are located close to each other zooming in using the map controls will reveal all the projects in any area.

What does the map show?

Markers on the map show (where known), the exact location of the source facility where the CO2 is, or is planned, to be captured.

The display option buttons (bottom centre) change the map to show the projects by their current status, the source of the CO2, the fuel used at the source facility, the capture method used, the storage type, and the amount of CO2 injected per year.

Click on a marker to see information on the project. Click on 'More Project Information' to find the project description, additional detail on the capture, transport and storage, the company/ies involved, cost and funding, and links to project web-pages and important developments.

*Some projects use captured CO2 for EOR (enhanced oil recovery).
**Monitoring, verification and reporting (MVR) can be applied to confirm the amount of CO2 stored in the EOR operation.

How accurate is this map?

This map is continually maintained and updated with independently gathered, compiled and assessed project information and developments. As such it does not represent the views of project developers, industry, government or other organisations. While every effort is made to keep it as up to date as possible, CCS is a rapidly changing field so if you do find something in need of change or update, please send details to ccs map.

How can I obtain more details?

SCCS continually monitors and analyses the progress of CCS project delivery and deployment globally, undertaking focused reporting and comment based on the data displayed here for government, industry and other organisations including members of the SCCS consortium. Analyses and interpretation can be performed for third parties. To discuss your requirements please contact SCCS Business Development.
