Short Courses (Continuing Professional Development)
Details of upcoming short courses offered by SCCS are listed below.
CO2 Storage: Geology for EngineersThis short course is designed for Engineers and Managers with limited or no previous geological knowledge. The aim is to provide an up-to-date introduction of the geological and geophysical aspects of CO2 Storage. This course is complemented by 'Risk and uncertainty in the geological storage of CO2' and 'CO2 Injection and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)' which are running the same week.
The course fee is £650 which includes lunch, refreshments and course materials. Members of the CO2 Industry Consortium are entitled to send 2 representatives free of charge - email Andy.Rutherford@ed.ac.uk for more information
CO2 Injection and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)This short course is designed for geologists, researchers, industry executives and managers with limited technical knowledge and anyone who wants to know more about CO2 injection, flow and storage in underground geological reservoirs. The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to CO2 injection in geological formations in particular hydrocarbon (oil and gas) reservoirs for storage and for EOR (enhanced oil recovery). The multiphase-flow related issues of CO2 injection, PVT and physical properties of CO2 and its interactions with other reservoirs resident fluids (oil, water and gas) will be reviewed and discussed. Displacement mechanisms during various CO2 injection strategies and the effects of pertinent parameters like water saturation, interfacial tension (IFT), oil viscosity etc will also be demonstrated and discussed.
The course fee is £650 which includes lunch, refreshments and course materials. Members of the CO2 Industry Consortium are entitled to send 2 representatives free of charge - email Andy.Rutherford@ed.ac.uk for more information   Risk and uncertainty in the geological storage of CO2This course introduces risk management techniques and explores uncertainties associated with the geological storage of CO2. It complements the course 'CO2 Storage: Geology for Engineers', by examining the behaviour of CO2 in the subsurface and how this information is used to estimate properties of the storage site such as capacity.
The course fee is £650 which includes lunch, refreshments and course materials. Members of the CO2 Industry Consortium are entitled to send 2 representatives free of charge - email Andy.Rutherford@ed.ac.uk for more information
